Alumni Challenge

The athletic department is holding a competition to see which sport can get the highest "percent participation" of alumni to donate. It doesn't matter how much you donate, just that you donate. Track our progress here!

What is the prize for winning?
The winning team will receive a trophy called the UR Alumni Cup to sit in the coach’s office for the year, a permanent plaque for the coach’s office wall, and a cash prize of additional funding for their team. So, not only will the winning team have the benefit of your gift to support the team, but also bragging rights for a full year as to who has the most supportive alumni!

How much is “additional funding”?
That has not yet been determined.

How is a winner chosen?
The team with the highest percentage of participation wins.

What does percentage of participation mean?
The UR Alumni Office has a list of alumni

Do donations to both Men and Women count towards Crew?
Yes, donations to both teams are counted towards “Crew”. This is not necessarily the case for other sport teams.

Does the size of the donation matter?
No, because the competition is based on percentage of participation and not size of donations, any amount helps.

Is there a minimum size for a donation?
Technically no. However we would encourage a minimum $25 donation for young alumni.

How long are donations accepted until?
The campaign runs through the 2010-2011 academic year, so June 30th is the final date that donations can be counted.

How do I make a donation?
If you received a newsletter, there is a donation form in the newsletter with instructions. However, you can send a check payable to “UR Crew”, “UR Men’s Crew”, or “UR Women’s Crew” to Head Coach Will Green at the following address:

If I make a donation specifically to the Men or Women’s team, will it go towards that team?
Yes, donations specifically to the Men or Women’s team will be distributed for use by that specific program.

What will my donation be spent on?
Since most all operational and travel expenses are funded by UR Athletics, the Crew's focus for the funds generated by this competition will be capital expense. We plan on buying a Men's Heavyweight 4+ and Women's Varsity 8+ as our next two capital expenditures.
