George Angle Unanimously Elected to University Athletics Hall of Fame

Long-time Rochester Crew benefactor George Angle has been unanimously elected to the University of Rochester Athletics Hall of Fame for his key role in the founding of Rochester Crew in 1981, as well as his contributions to the University and to the Greater Rochester community. George was selected along with nine other inductees, though he represents the sole non-athlete or coach inductee.

Since the team’s founding in 1981, George has been the team’s primary caretaker, assisting the athletes and coaching staff at all points through the thirty-year journey that culminated in the team’s realignment into the athletic department and women’s rowing’s inclusion as a Varsity sport in Fall 2009. George also worked for the University in various executive positions for nearly thirty years including Vice President of Business Affairs, Vice President of Public Affairs, and Senior Executive. He and his wife, Vee, are also distinguished philanthropists in the Greater Rochester Community.

The entire 2011 class will be honored in a dinner Friday, October 21st during Meliora Weekend. UR Crew alumni are encouraged to attend in support of George Angle and all he’s done for our team. Please contact Associate Athletic Director Terry Gurnett at tgurnett@sports.rochester.edu for more details.
